Qualifications: BA Secondary Education - Mathematics

Mr. Alex Crystal

My name is Alex Crystal and I joined the Middleton High School team in the fall of 2018. I graduated from Northwest Nazarene University in 2013 with a BA in Secondary Education emphasis in Mathematics. While I was at NNU I ran cross country and track for four years. I have taught and coached since 2013 in Twin Falls, Idaho and Salem, Utah. My wife and I are excited to start setting down our roots in the community here.

Mathematics is a challenging subject area. For that reason it is why I have enjoyed it so much. I have always had the attitude that with challenge comes great personal reward and growth. I hope to convey this mindset to my students. Mathematics has taught me perserverance, problem solving skills, and think critically about all situations in my daily life. I believe that through our CPM math program students are learning many of the soft skills, like I mentioned, needed to help them be successful in life outside of high school.

Outside of school I enjoy running with my wife and dog. I've been a whitewater guide for ten years and can talk for hours about Idaho's rivers. During the winter we ski as much vertical as we can get in a day before finding ourselves a large plate of nachos.
